Brown Lake (West Rosebud)
Hard to find, harder to leave. The drop back to Silver Lake runs through slick shale and deadfall, and huckleberries wait at the bottom of it.
Nugget Lake
Follow the inlet stream up from Beckwourth and it takes you straight to the shoreline. Nine acres of cutthroat at 9,394 feet, the highest on the loop.
Mystic Lake (West Rosebud)
Three miles and 1,300 feet to the overlook, and that climb is nearly the whole drainage. The most popular hike in the Beartooths, and the gate to everything above it.
West Rosebud Lake
Brook, brown and rainbow trout a minute from the car, the last roadside water before the Mystic Lake Trailhead.
Emerald Lake (West Rosebud)
Brook, brown and rainbow trout you can fish a minute from the car, right off West Rosebud Road on the way to Mystic.
Reeves Lake
A lily pad pond right off West Rosebud Road, two minutes from the car and a couple of miles short of the Mystic trailhead.
Crater Lake (West Rosebud)
Two miles on the Ernie Strum Trail past Lily Pad, to water warm enough to swim in by June. Rainbow trout at eight to twelve inches.
Lily Pad Lake
A mile and a half on the Ernie Strum Trail to brook trout at 6,412 feet, warm enough to swim by June. The lily pads make casting difficult.
