Gander Lake

Threebay Lake
Seventeen acres at 8,326 feet, half an hour off trail southeast of Lost Lake. No fish record, and mosquitoes that ran us off.
Lost Lake (Clarks Fork, WY)
Thirty-six acres for an hour's walk on trail from the Lake Creek trailhead. Yellowstone cutthroat, and the worst mosquitoes we have run into.
Upper Sheepherder Lake
The bigger and higher of the two Sheepherder lakes, and the one most maps label simply Sheepherder. About an hour and a half in on a use trail.
Lower Sheepherder Lake
The bigger of the two Sheepherder lakes and the first one you reach, about forty minutes in on a use trail off the Beartooth Highway.
Rush Lake
The last lake on the walk out to Clay Butte, and the published coordinates put it a mile from where it actually sits.
Elk Lake (Clarks Fork, WY)
There is a trail to it that the maps do not show, and the published coordinates put it two and a half miles from where it actually is.
Poke Lake
Eighteen acres on the walk out from Granite, and the biggest water you pass on the climb back to Clay Butte.
Granite Lake
Two hundred and twenty-eight acres and a hundred and twenty-five feet deep, in country where a big lake is thirty acres. FWP admits they cannot sample it properly.
Teardrop Lake
Half a mile below Thiel on the way down to Granite. Our GPS put it more than a mile from where the maps show it.
T Lake
Thirteen acres on the plateau above Clay Butte, the largest lake in a cluster where everything else is under ten.
Trey Lake
Under an acre at nearly ten thousand feet, the last of the small lakes before the trail climbs into the higher country.
Surprise Lake (Clarks Fork, WY)
Four acres in the middle of the tightest lake cluster on the plateau, with five more within half a mile of the shoreline.
Deuce Lake
Two and a half acres right beside the trail, four tenths of a mile north of Native Lake on the plateau above Clay Butte.
Box Lake
Approximately half a mile northwest of Native Lake, the largest of the small lakes clustered on the plateau above Clay Butte.
Native Lake
Approximately three miles in from Clay Butte, the junction lake for the Beartooth High Lakes. Five more lakes sit within three quarters of a mile.
Lily Lake (Clarks Fork, WY)
Forty-one acres you can drive a minivan to, with a campground at the water, a boat ramp, jumping rocks, and crawdads in the shallows.
Snyder Lake
The trail quits at the end of the pond. Everything past that is cross-country, up the valley to a 13-acre lake at 10,005 feet — 4.3 miles round trip from the Long Lake Trailhead.
Fantan Lake
Fifty five acres with an island, and you can drive to the shoreline. Fifteen minutes of rough track off the highway, no walking at all.
Sparhawk Lake
Half a mile of flat walking past where the 4x4 track ends at Sawtooth. Nine acres at 9,240 feet, and quiet for the effort.
