Threebay Lake

Approaches: Approximately 7.5 miles round trip from the Lake Creek trailhead, three of them on trail and the rest off. You need a high-clearance vehicle to reach the trailhead.

Getting there

Everything to Lost Lake applies here first: three miles on trail from the Lake Creek trailhead, about an hour.

From Lost, Threebay is two thirds of a mile southeast and only about 90 feet higher. It is off trail from here on. We left Lost at half past eleven and were at Threebay by noon, so half an hour across.

The hike

Threebay is about 17 acres at 8,326 feet, which makes it the second largest of the three lakes on this loop after Lost.

Wyoming Game and Fish has no stocking record for it, so there is nothing published about what is in it.

The mosquitoes were the story of the whole day out here. Swat one and five more show up.

Gander is the next lake on from here. Coming back, the sensible line is to return the way you came, back past Lost. Going off trail toward Lily from the far end is very difficult ground.

Tips & safety

• Navigation: Off trail from Lost Lake, two thirds of a mile southeast, about half an hour.

• Camping: We walked this as a day hike and did not scout camping.

• Fishing: No WYG&F data. We did not fish it.

• Bugs: Terrible. Swat one and you get five.

• Getting out: Return past Lost the way you came in. The off-trail line toward Lily is hard going.
