Beauty Lake (Stillwater)
Four miles off the Goose Lake Jeep Trail, all of it off trail. The last easy ground before the climb to the Aries bench.
Wrong Lake
A thousand feet down off the canyon rim through cliffs and nettles, and a thousand feet back up. You can see it from Courthouse without any of that.
Courthouse Lake
The highest water in the basin at 9,935 feet, and the rim you look down at Wrong Lake from. Four miles off the Goose Lake Jeep Trail with no trail at all.
Fly Lake
Brook trout at 9,794 feet on the open bench, level with Spider and a short walk from it. Everything up here is off trail.
Spider Lake
Ten acres of brook trout at 9,794 feet, the largest on the bench. Everything up here is off trail and the climb out of Anvil is the hard part.
Sourdough Lake
Three and a half acres at 9,584 feet, a couple of minutes north of Aries on the bench. FWP lists brook trout, though we did not catch any.
Lake Aries
The first lake after the climb out of Anvil, and that climb is the price of admission for the whole bench. Brook trout at 9,547 feet.
Anvil Lake (Stillwater)
Thirteen acres at 9,512 feet and the best basecamp in the basin. The path ends at Star Dust and the last mile is your own line.
Saderbalm Lake
Five miles and 2,500 feet up the West Fork Stillwater, with the last mile through a burn full of downfall. Bear sign the whole way.
Star Dust Lake
The shortest walk in the basin at under two miles, and the point where the path gives out. Under an acre at 9,521 feet.
Panhandle Lake
The first lake past where the path ends, just over a mile from the turnaround. Three and a half acres at 9,570 feet with no fish record.
Wall Lake (Stillwater)
Two hundred and sixty seven yards from the vehicle turnaround, and the last lake in the basin you can reach on a path. The drive is the hard part.
Silver Run Lakes
A group of brook trout lakes between 9,450 and 9,650 feet. Five miles from Timberline, or two miles cross-country if you are already camped there.
Timberline Lakes
Twenty one acres of brook trout at 9,794 feet, running ten to twelve inches. Five miles on trail, with a long shadeless stretch of burn to get through.
Lake Gertrude
Four miles and 2,000 feet on trail, with the best campsites in this basin. Brook trout listed, though the fishing is better a mile higher at Timberline.
Bridge Lake
Ten miles and 3,500 feet up the Boulder drainage, with the camp sitting two miles below the lake. A historic cabin waits an hour up the trail.
Fantan Lake
Fifty five acres with an island, and you can drive to the shoreline. Fifteen minutes of rough track off the highway, no walking at all.
Sparhawk Lake
Half a mile of flat walking past where the 4x4 track ends at Sawtooth. Nine acres at 9,240 feet, and quiet for the effort.
Sawtooth Lake
A hundred and fifteen acres you can drive to, at the end of a genuinely technical 4x4 track. The largest drive-up water in this part of Wyoming.
Lake WGN
A fifth of an acre right off the 4x4 track at 9,489 feet. Wyoming Game and Fish has it as no longer a viable fishery.
