Bergschrund Lake (Boot Lake)

The last lake at the head of the Falls Creek basin, 10,120 feet and fishless. The Falcon Guide calls it Boot. FWP has no entry for it at all.

Glissade Lake (Alice Lake)

Thirty-five acres at 10,055 feet, the biggest lake in the Falls Creek basin. The Falcon Guide calls it Alice and lists it fishless. FWP has no entry at all.

Falls Creek Lake

Just under 10,000 feet at the head of Falls Creek, above treeline on a rock shore, with no FWP entry and no name on the Falcon Guide's map.

Little Scat Lake

Five acres and three feet deep at 9,394 feet. FWP stocked it to seed the lakes below, then decided it was too shallow for the job.

Scat Lake

Seven acres at 9,335 feet above Martin, stocked with golden trout FWP has never managed to catch. The west shoreline cliffs out, so we went up and over.

Martin Lake (East Rosebud)

Golden trout at 9,118 feet, 108 feet deep, reached by an unmaintained scramble up Falls Creek above Lake at Falls. A lot of cliffs, and the descent is worse than the climb.

Lake at Falls

The fifth lake up the East Rosebud, named for the falls on its south shore. Golden trout planted here in 1955 seeded the fishery for the whole drainage below.

Rainbow Lake (East Rosebud)

The fourth lake up the East Rosebud and 180 feet deep. Where most people stop, where most of the camping is, and about a mile farther than the sign suggests.

Rimrock Lake

The third lake up the East Rosebud and the first real one, held in a narrow steep-sided valley. Colorful self-sustaining hybrids and a swim worth stopping for.

Elk Lake (East Rosebud)

The first lake up the East Rosebud, a bit over three miles on good trail. Easy camping and abundant small brookies, but after the flood this is a wide spot in the river you could wade across.

East Rosebud Lake

The drive-to lake at the mouth of the East Rosebud, and the trailhead for every lake above it. Shallow, easy to reach, and holding brown trout past 25 inches.

Lost Lake (Hidden Lake)

Six hundred feet above Shadow Lake up a steep drainage, with a boulder field at the top big enough that dogs need carrying through it.

Shadow Lake (East Rosebud)

Two and a half miles and 2,240 feet with no trail, through a burn thick with brush and hidden deadfall. Wear long pants.

Snow Lakes

Three thousand feet up an off-trail drainage from the East Rosebud trail. Stay north of the creek, and expect Upper Snow to ice over early.
