Glissade Lake (Alice Lake)

Approaches: Approximately 25 miles round trip from the East Rosebud trailhead, with roughly 4,200 feet of climbing. No trail above Lake at Falls.
Elevation: 10,055 feet
Fish: Fishless, per the Falcon Guide. No FWP data.

Bugs: Not a problem in August.

Getting there

Everything up to Falls Creek Lake applies here first.

From there it is about half a mile south. We were on the shore about twenty minutes after leaving Falls Creek Lake. The two lakes are only a hundred feet apart in elevation, but we did not stay low between them. We went up and over a rib east of the lake that our track puts at 10,194 feet, and came back down the same line.

The hike

The Falcon Guide calls this lake Alice. GNIS calls it Glissade. It is the same water, and it is the biggest thing up here at 34.8 acres, larger than Martin down at the bottom of the basin.

Montana FWP has no entry for it, which means no depth, no acreage of their own and no fish survey. The only fish information anyone has published is the Falcon Guide's, and it lists the lake as fishless.

There is no timber, and there is a lot of marsh around it.

Tips & safety

• Navigation: No trail. Above Martin's west shoreline, past Scat, over the cliffs to Little Scat, up the creek to Falls Creek Lake, then south. We went over the rib east of the lake rather than working the shoreline.

• Camping: None. Above treeline, no timber, rocky and marshy. Martin is the last place in this chain we found sites.

• Fishing: Listed fishless in the Falcon Guide. No FWP data.

• Bugs: Nothing that stood out.
