Getting there

Raymond sits south of the Upsidedown Creek Trail, a bit over half a mile southeast of Diamond and a mile southeast of Horseshoe. It is essentially at the same elevation as both, within thirty feet.

We came past it on the last morning of a nine-day traverse, walking out, and were in its ground for an hour.

The hike

We saw mountain goats here.

That is the thing worth knowing about this lake, and it is most of what anyone has to say about it. Montana FWP has no entry — no depth, no acreage, no fish record, no camping assessment.

At three acres it is small, and it sits below the trail rather than on it, in a pocket south of the creek.

Tips & safety

• Navigation: South of the Upsidedown Creek Trail, half a mile southeast of Diamond. Off the trail itself.

• Camping: We passed through on a walk-out and did not scout it. Horseshoe has camping FWP calls good, a mile northwest.

• Fishing: No FWP data.

• Bugs: Mosquitoes, annoying rather than bad.

• Goats: We saw mountain goats at this lake.
