Getting there

The journey begins by driving the rugged off-road track past Chain Lakes and Lake WGN to the 4x4 endpoint at Sawtooth Lake. You will absolutely need a lifted truck, a sturdy Jeep, or a reliable four-wheeler to safely navigate the technical spots along this rough road.

The hike

There is no maintained trail to this destination, but the trek is short and straightforward. Once you park at Sawtooth Lake, you will set out on foot for a brief walk of exactly 800 yards (about half a mile) across the alpine terrain to reach the shores of Sparhawk Lake.

Tips & safety

  • Driving & Route: Ensure your vehicle is fully capable of handling technical 4x4 terrain to make it to the trailhead at Sawtooth. The subsequent walk to Sparhawk is short but requires basic directional awareness since there is no formal trail.

  • Fishing: WYG&F data shows historical trout populations, but overall fishing in this immediate area was slow during our visit.
