Getting there

The off-road route transitions entirely into rough, rugged terrain. You will absolutely need a lifted truck, a sturdy Jeep, or a reliable four-wheeler to make the journey safely past tricky spots that require adept driving skills and a well-maintained vehicle.

The hike

There is no hiking required to reach this destination. The rugged off-road track leads you past Chain Lakes and Lake WGN, bringing your high-clearance vehicle directly to the endpoint right along the shore of Sawtooth Lake.

Tips & safety

  • Driving: Do not attempt this stretch in a standard car or low-clearance vehicle. It features technical spots requiring a true 4x4 or ATV.

  • Fishing: We spent three long hours on the water here and fishing was not particularly fruitful; I only managed to catch one eight-inch fish.
