The hike
From the Russell Creek trailhead, follow the main trail for roughly 1.2 miles and 118 vertical feet. Just before you reach Kersey Lake, bank right and head south onto the Vernon Lake trail. Continue another 0.7 miles and 200 vertical feet past the junction to reach Lillis Lake. The section getting into and out of Lillis Lake is slightly steep, but once you arrive, the terrain becomes nice and flat.
Tips & safety
Navigation: Missed turns will take you toward Kersey Lake instead. Watch closely for the Vernon Lake trail split at the 1.2-mile mark.
Bugs: Heavy bug pressure. Bring heavy-duty repellent and gear for extreme mosquito numbers.
Fishing: FWP and GNIS data listed for Brook Trout, but we didn’t catch any fish
