Getting there

Park at the Timberline trailhead located in the Rock Creek area to begin the hike.

The hike

From the trailhead, embark on a scenic trek of roughly 4 miles along the main path to reach Lake Gertrude. The trail involves a continuous ascent of 1,900 vertical feet. Much of the time during this initial hike will be spent walking through an old burn area, which can get incredibly warm and exposed on a sunny day.

Tips & safety

  • Terrain Warning: The burn area offers no shade, so plan for high temperatures on the trail and bring extra water.

  • Camping: There are numerous excellent camping spots surrounding the shoreline of Lake Gertrude if you decide to turn this into an overnight stay.

  • Fishing: FWP and GNIS data listed for Brook Trout, but we did not catch any fish during our visit.
