Getting there

Forest Service Road 149, near Top of the World Store. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 1491B. High-clearance 4x4 required.

Park along the road at the inlet, or near where the inlet starts.

The hike

No maintained trail to the lake. From parking, head straight for the lake.

Can't follow the inlet down to the lake — marshy. Stay west of the far inlet, along the bank, as close to the lake as the ground allows.

Lake is marshy. Standing water in the grass around the shoreline — plan on wet feet to actually touch the water.

Tips & safety

• Road: 1491B needs high-clearance 4x4.

• Bugs: heavy, bring repellent.

• Footwear: expect wet feet if you want to touch the lake.
